The congregation has developed an educational ministry here at St. Paul’s to perceive and respond to God’s self-revelation in Jesus Christ and to participate in God’s continuing activity and revelation as individuals of all ages relate to others and deepen their faith. Our congregation studies and works in relation to the community and to the church around the world. We provide schools and various other learning opportunities. Learning enhances educational leadership and contributes to other functions in the congregation. We hope you will join us in our journey to learn more about God and our faith, which we work to accomplish in all facets of learning ministry.
St. Paul's Sunday School strives to bring learners to a closer relationship with Jesus. We offer Sunday School classes for learners of all ages. The nursery class instructs our youngest learners using an age appropriate curriculum. For pre-kindergarten through Grade 4 students, we offer a rotation workshop. Units are taught in workshops using puppetry, role-playing, creative expression, games, and stories. Our 5th and 6th graders use a curriculum intended to introduce them to the purpose and meaning of Confirmation, while our 7th and 8th grade students attend the required Confirmation classes during the Sunday School hour. Our high school students gather for current issues and faith broadening discussions. For adults we offer Coffee and Conversation, which explores timely topics presented by guest speakers or a Bible Study class. Our Sunday School offers something for everyone. Join us!
Our 7th and 8th grade students receive instruction in Christian faith and life. They learn that one of the most important questions they can ask is "What is God up to?" Through discussion, service projects and retreats they learn to deepen their faith and their relationship with God and others and are taught life lessons about responsibility, respect for self and others and service to others.
Students learn about the meaning of the sacrament of Holy Communion, which is a time to celebrate that God is present with us and, that through God's grace, He has freed us from the power of sin and death.
GWBU is a process by which we learn from each other but we do not directly teach each other. In other words, when we respond to God’s word, we share what we believe God is saying to us individually, not what we believe God is saying to others. It is also important that we carefully listen to the Bible reading knowing that it is God speaking to us directly.
What makes GWBU very different from a typical Bible study is that it’s not about listening to one person expound on the reading. It is about listening to what each person heard in the reading, then thinking about and discovering what God is saying to us through the passage. The discussion that follows the readings, where we listen to what others heard, helps us think it through for ourselves and remember what we’ve heard and learned. We are much more likely to benefit from, remember, apply and share with others what we’ve heard when we think about and discuss scripture readings with others.
