Catechism Requirements 2011-2012

Regular participation in

1) Worship services (minimum: three (3) Sundays per month)

Sign-in sheet on desk in narthex.

2) Catechetical classes (minimum: three (3) Sundays per month)

Sign-in sheet in the catechism class room.

3) “God’s Word Blesses Us” will be offered on the second and fourth Sunday evenings of every month from 6 – 7:30 pm.  At least one session each month is required for both student and parent(s).

4) Potato Project:  We will meet at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and depart for the site where we will be picking potatoes on the following 3 dates: Saturday morning October 8 and 15 - meeting at the church at 8:30 am and concluding no later than 1 pm and Sunday afternoon, October 9 - meeting at the church at 12:30 pm and concluding no later than 5 pm.

You are required to attend at least one of these dates.  The potatoes we pick will go to local food banks to feed the hungry, to help our neighbors.  There are 13 acres of potatoes to pick so lots of hands are needed.  Please make every attempt to be there all 3 dates and bring family and friends to help.

Attendance

Please make certain you are in compliance with attendance requirements for worship, confirmation class and GWBU.  You must assume responsibility for this!  You will find an attendance roster on the table in your confirmation classroom for class, at the GWBU session and on the shelf in the narthex for you to place a checkmark to confirm your attendance at worship.

Check the bulletin board in the catechism classroom for a copy of the requirements and your comprehensive attendance record.  If you have fallen out of compliance, please contact one of your instructors immediately for remedial work.  We will not recommend anyone to the congregation council to be received as a member if they have not completed the congregation council approved requirements.

Summer Mission Trip

Each student is required to complete a one time, “mission” work camp during their two year catechism program.  I would recommend in most cases that you experience this trip between your seventh and eighth grade years; however, you can go before, during or after, as your family needs dictate.

Tentatively scheduled for August 2 - 5

Cost $ 190

(Non–refundable deposit of $50 due by Sunday, June 17.)   Balance due Sunday, July 15 along with the Authorization to Participate Form.

Congregational Service

Fifteen (15) hours to be completed each year (a total of 30 hours):

Praise Choir, acolyte, nursery care during worship, Children’s Church, Vacation Bible School, usher, reader, food pantry, Topton Lutheran Home to name a few.  If Mrs. Erin Martin tells me you have nearly perfect attendance in the Praise Choir, I will consider your requirement to be satisfied.

(Please email your activities each month to stpauls19522@earthlink.net even if you write “none”).

In the subject space please type – Catechism Congregational Service and your last name -.
